Oven Convection Fan Not Working? 6 Causes and What to Do
A convection fan that will not spin is usually a failed fan motor, a seized blade, a door switch or a relay on the control board. Here is how to narrow it down.

A top-load washer that fills but will not agitate usually has a bad lid switch, worn agitator dogs, a broken motor coupler or drive belt, a failed shift actuator, or a motor or control fault. If the agitator spins freely by hand or turns only one way, the agitator parts are worn. If it hums or makes no sound, the problem is in the drive or the controls.
For a quick visit, our washer repair Mountain View technicians fix Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, GE, Speed Queen, Samsung and LG top-loaders across Mountain View.
Some newer high-efficiency top-loaders have a low impeller plate instead of a tall agitator. The checks below still help, but those models depend more on the shifter and motor.
On dual-action agitators, the top half uses small plastic cogs called dogs. When they wear down, the top spins freely in both directions and clothes on top do not move. This is a cheap part and a common fix.
If the whole agitator turns freely by hand, the splines inside it or the drive bell may be stripped. Pulling the agitator cap and the center bolt lets you see it.
The washer will fill with the lid open on some models, but it will not agitate unless the switch closes. A broken switch tab or a failed lock is a very common cause on newer models.
Many direct-drive washers use a plastic and rubber coupler between the motor and the transmission. It is designed to break if the washer is overloaded. You hear the motor run, but nothing turns.
Belt-drive washers stop agitating when the belt slips or breaks. Newer washers use a shift actuator to switch between agitate and spin. When it fails, you may get spin but no agitate, or a code on the display.
If none of the above fixes it, the motor, the transmission or the control board may be at fault. These are larger repairs, so a technician will test them before replacing anything.

Common causes are a bad lid switch, worn agitator dogs, a broken motor coupler, a loose or broken belt, or a failed motor or control. On newer washers, a shift actuator or drive problem can also stop agitation.
They are small plastic cogs inside the top part of a dual-action agitator. They let the top spin one way. When they wear, the top section turns freely while the bottom still moves.
Replacing agitator dogs or the agitator itself is a simple job on many Whirlpool-made washers. Coupler, belt, transmission and motor work is harder and best done by a technician.
Most washer repairs in Mountain View cost about $150 to $450 with parts and labor. Agitator dogs or a coupler are on the low end. Transmission work costs more.
